Wind energy is truly green energy

India is a developing nation and has to face the need of ever increasing energy demands. High levels of pollution, increasing population, global warming and scarcity of natural resources are posing a great threat. Everywhere around us we see massive commercialization, high rise buildings, deterioration of rivers and degradation of green belt. We all are reeling around the tremendous ill effects of global warming. It is giving rise to sudden climatic changes causing natural calamities.

Amidst all this still we have some untapped or we can say scarcely used resources such is the Sun and wind energy.  Making use of renewable and clean energy resource is of great help for our nation.

Wind energy or power is extracted from air flow using wind turbines or sails to produce mechanical or electrical energy. It is renewable, cleaner, hassle free, abundant and free from any menace caused by greenhouse gas emission. It is one of the most inexpensive source and requires some area for turbine foundation and respective infrastructure.

The environmental impact of wind energy is minimal.  It has the lowest global warming potential per unit of electricity generated. Greenhouse gas emission is causing various maladies. Why we are not rapidly shifting to renewable and safe resources? Wind energy is truly green energy.

India has the fourth largest installed wind power capacity in the world. Wind power accounts nearly 8.5% of India's total installed power generation capacity and generated 28,214 million Kwh (MU) in the fiscal year 2014-15 which is nearly 2.6% of total electricity generation. Though the figures are steady but still we need to do more to harness this most important energy resource.

  2. Agreed Swati, wind energy can make a massive difference for a country which is facing power shortage issues. Esp in the open areas such as Rajashtan, it can make a lot of difference.
