"A Clean and A Green city"

“The chirping birds to wake us up
The gentle breeze that rub off us
The lung exhilarates
The soul liberates with resounding joy of a new day, a new life & freshness surrounds
The flowers around, butterfly resound – “The glory of mother earth abound”

The words of my above poem does not resonate well with the city I live in, the city of my dreams the city I cherish & love – Delhi
Sad enough to know that Delhi is now considered as one of the most polluted city on earth.
As Wikipedia explains Air pollution is the introduction of particulates, biological molecule or other harmful material into the earth’s atmosphere producing adverse effects on humans and the ecosystem.
Can nothing be done to protect and preserve our city?
Sitting in front of television abusing our politicians, blaming the corrupt system is all we generally do. Taking part in endless discussion & debates, how & whom to blame – won’t help.
Ready steady & go – is the need of the hour.
Our endeavor needs to be herculean.
We need to analyze & improvise our role in it, starting from our homes, office or day to day activities, needs to be controlled & should be cleanliness as well as hygiene friendly
Let’s check how we can adopt smart sustainable choices:-

Littering
Throwing away refuse object here and there for others to dispose them or leave the waste on its fate for harmful micro – organism to breed or for stray animals to ingest the much damaging particles is kind of normal phenomenon which can be seen anywhere.
We need to adopt the habit of reducing the waste which we dispose of.
Using durable and reusable products instead of disposable ones.
E.g. Shopping bags – Made of cloth instead of polythene bags
                                - Using reusable containers
Look for ways to save the extra waste whenever possible
-          The vegetable waste, used tea leaves, most of kitchen waste can be used for preparing manures for plants
-          Avoid purchasing products with unnecessary extra packaging
-          Give boost to recycling, buy products made from recycled stuff
-          Reduce paper usage
-          Donating items which we no longer use but may be useful for somebody else e.g.:- clothes, toys, school bags, books, stationery items, furniture, electronic items etc.

Disposing the waste In a careful and hygienic manner so it does not harm anybody.
Especially the hazardous material needs to be taken care of before disposing e.g.:- glass items, chemicals, medicinal or surgical waste.

Teaching our Kids We need to teach our kids the importance of cleanliness and hygienic habits. We should set examples, they will learn from what they observe at home.
They should learn from very beginning littering anything around is not at all acceptable. Making them partners in all the cleanliness drive at home would be learning with fun

Polythene bags The menace of polythene is obstructing the natural flora and fauna of our city. Wherever the eyes can reach we can see the ugliness caused by polythene bags.
We glorify our homes & leave the Mother Nature to choke till death under the definite ill effects of “polythene”
Low cost & durability makes polythene products attractive to consumers
But its harmful effects are insurmountable – ‘its non biodegradable’
“Say no to plastic or polythene bags
And yes to bags made of cloth”
“We should stop littering them now”

Keeping the public toilet clean
Let’s behave ourselves and adopt practices which are conducive to good health for all.
Use flush & clean toilet after use, throw away waste in bins which is never too far away.
These simple acts cost us nothing but will gain us good surroundings.
We should endorse healthy sanitation practices.

Transportation
The rise in level of air pollution has been effecting all of us be it kids or elderly people. Asthma, bronchitis, allergies, coughing are on verge of becoming part of our daily lives.
Let’s do our bit to lessen it.
-          Use public transport as much as possible (Metro has indeed made our lives much easier, saving lots of time).
-          Car pooling whenever possible
-          Pollution check on vehicles

      “Fresh air to breath”
“A sight to cherish”
Let’s hug the nature and perish the sin
Let’s unite, let’s pledge to keep our habits nature friendly
Let’s step up to gift our coming generation A Clean and A Green city

  1. I really liked your article and appreciate your efforts to keep India clean. This is what we really need in today's world. Please write something about how Government can help? How can oil and gas sectors contribute?
